How humigation works:
Using only water, the Humigator™ purifies the air and adds moisture without chemicals or filters. Air from the storage area and a small stream of water are combined in the Humigator’s mixer/blower trap. This water is then distributed as a vapour through a controlled series of rapid pressure changes. In the first phase, these microscopic water droplets collide with particles and pathogens in the air as the air pressure drops sharply, passing through multiple Venturi zones. The impurities are moved towards the flowing water. Together with the air, this is forced into a cyclone separation phase, separating the dirty water from the newly pure and humidified air. Clean, moist air blows out of the top of the Humigator back into the plenum or a different area as desired, while the dirty water flows away for easy disposal.
The air exiting the Humigator is at 100% humidity, but without any water vapour. Optimal humidity is achieved without the plenum’s walls and floor or other surfaces becoming wet. This makes it possible to humidify even those areas where conventional humidifiers cannot be used. Humigators have been subjected to scientific testing and have been successfully deployed for potato storage in unventilated buildings and other spaces that require additional moisture.
As a Humigator needs only electricity and water and there are no filters to replace, they are simple to operate, very low-maintenance and easy to install at any potato storage facility. Humigators are currently installed at a wide range of storage units in eight American states, nearly eliminating the spread of silver scurf, black dot and other storage diseases at these locations.
